Donald Trump has shut down the rumors that said he was considering picking BlackRock CEO Larry Fink or JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon as his Treasury Secretary if he wins the election.
In a post on his Truth Social, Trump said he has never even thought about these two men and he is definitely not appointing either of them. He even said the rumor could’ve been perpetuated by the ‘Radical Left.’
A few days ago, I reported that Trump was thinking about Jamie and Larry for the position. Larry and Trump have some history together because apparently, the former managed the latter’s investment at some point.
The NY Post and WSJ are the ones who started this rumor by the way.
Our belief was that picking Jamie, who Trump said has changed his tune regarding crypto, and Larry, who just publicly shared his adoration for Bitcoin, means Trump is taking his commitment to crypto pretty seriously.
The community rejoiced, commending him as they have been doing.
Him debunking the rumor has made me think about what crypto industry leaders like Arthur Hayes, Vitalik Buterin, and Eric Pulier told us concerning voting for “the pro-crypto candidates.”
How sure are we that they’re actually one of us? That they see the vision? That they’re true blockchain believers?
Sure Bitcoin Magazine’s David Bailey has been doing his best to shove Trump down the crypto community’s throats, but no one can ever say for sure that a politician will actually do what they say they will during their campaign.
Politics should have no place in crypto. That’s the whole point of decentralization. As the legendary Arthur Hayes told us, it shouldn’t matter to crypto who is in office. We should instead strive for bipartisan legalization.
Even if Trump does love crypto, and even if he does win the election, he wouldn’t have all the power to pass a crypto regulation bill. There are cabinets and regulatory agencies that need to be on board.
One of Trump’s very first pro-crypto statements was that he will assemble a crypto army to defeat Biden in the election, making it clear right from the beginning that he is using it as a campaign weapon.
His VP pick, the controversial JD Vance, has said he loves crypto before. But what do we know about JD? He changes his mind a lot. Five years ago, he hated Trump. Now, he loves him. Ten years ago, he liked Kamala Harris. Now he hates her.
Last time he owned crypto or even spoke favorably about it was over two years ago. So how sure are we that, just like his feelings on Trump and Kamala, he hasn’t changed his mind? Or that he wouldn’t?
Let’s be smart about this. At the end of the day, politics is still just POLITICS.
