President Donald Trump is preparing to reintroduce a sweeping drug pricing plan that ties U.S. Medicare payments to prices in other countries. The expected executive order aims to revive the “most favored nation” (MFN) policy, which links the cost of select Medicare drugs to the lower prices paid by foreign governments.
The move, reported by Politico and confirmed by three individuals familiar with the discussions, comes after Trump hinted at a major policy reveal earlier this week.
He stated, “We’re going to have a very, very big announcement to make—like as big as it gets.” While he did not mention drug prices directly, sources suggest the MFN model is the focus of the upcoming announcement.

The MFN proposal is designed to reduce government spending on medications by referencing international drug prices. The United States often pays up to three times more for the same drugs compared to countries like Germany and the United Kingdom.
Officials said President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order early next week. The order would instruct federal agencies to move forward with the MFN model for a limited list of drugs under the Medicare program. However, the list of targeted drugs has not yet been finalized.
Trump attempted to implement a similar policy in his first term however that version was blocked in court due to procedural issues. The Biden administration later chose not to pursue the plan however this renewed effort seeks to avoid those legal issues and proceed under existing authority.
