Hong Kong Flags Privacy Breach in Worldcoin Project

The Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner (PCPD) has stated that Sam Altman’s iris-scanning project, Worldcoin, violated the privacy ordinance. Worldcoin collected data from more than 8,000 individuals without sufficient disclosure of information. In addition, the PCPD highlighted issues related to the collection, retention, and transparency of personal data, considering these practices excessive and unnecessary. Worldcoin was also instructed to stop collecting facial and iris data immediately. This setback follows other regulatory challenges, such as the lack of operations in the US.
