Blockchain Technology Enhances Tradition

On January 13, Chaincode Consulting announced a collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. The goal is to digitize the spiritual journey for MahaKumbh travelers. Polygon was selected for its low fees and fast processing speed. Alok Gupta, CEO of Chaincode Consulting, emphasized the project’s cultural significance.

Gupta described this innovation as a bridge between India’s heritage and blockchain technology. NFT-based tickets will be available on NFTtrace, a platform focused on real-world assets. This initiative also aims to attract global travelers by offering a seamless and secure ticketing experience. With millions of tickets booked daily, Indian Railways is introducing a new level of convenience for passengers.

Global Recognition for a Cultural Phenomenon

The Kumbh Mela, celebrated every 12 years, holds UNESCO recognition as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. MahaKumbh Mela, however, occurs only once every 144 years. The upcoming pilgrimage has already gained international attention.

Prominent figures like Laurene Jobs, Richard Gere, and the Dalai Lama have shown interest in attending. This project follows a similar NFT initiative launched during Holi in 2024. Aishwary Gupta of Polygon Labs highlighted the role of public blockchains in removing intermediaries.

This initiative not only modernizes travel but also preserves the essence of India’s cultural legacy. Indian Railways is setting a global example by combining tradition with cutting-edge technology. This bold move shows how blockchain can redefine cultural and spiritual experiences for millions worldwide.
