Louisiana has taken its first crypto payment through the Bitcoin Lightning Network. Residents can now use Bitcoin, Bitcoin Lightning, and USD Coin (USDC) to pay for state services, as State Treasurer John Fleming announced on September 17. The first transaction was a fine paid to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The state partnered with Bead Pay to convert crypto into U.S. dollars, protecting against volatility. Republican State Representative Mark Wright, who led the push for crypto acceptance, expressed excitement over expanding payment options for residents.
