Midjourney releases new AI unified web editor

Midjourney is stepping up its game to stay ahead in the generative AI industry as it released an updated version of its unified web editor. This comes as the sector is seeing intense competition among the industry players.

The company is generally touted to be one of the best in AI image creators by artists and designers for its good quality in image generation. To consolidate its position, Midjourney is, like other generative AI companies upgrading their models to remain relevant in the fast-paced industry.

Midjourney bundles several features into a single view

The latest offering entails an image editor that unifies several existing features, for instance, inpainting, which involves repainting a segment of a picture with new AI-generated visuals. The new update also enables outpainting or canvas extension which entails the stretching of boundaries of the picture in different directions and filling the new space with new AI visuals, and other features into a single view.

A Discord message sent from Midjourney CEO David Holz reveals the firm’s goal is to make AI generations easier.

“We think this makes editing your MJ images way more seamless than before and is a huge step forward.”

Holz.

According to VentureBeat, the latest web editor contains another new feature, which is a new virtual “brush-like tool” for inpainting. This new “brush” replaces the old square selector and lasso tools thereby allowing for more precision when using AI to edit some parts of an already generated image.

These features were previously available to Midjourney users on the web nested under disparate menus.

How to access the new tool

The latest feature is now live and accessible to all users who have created images on the platform, according to a VentureBeat report.

Apart from the web editor, Midjourney also released another feature that is meant to improve communication between its web and Discord communities.

The report further suggests that messages that are sent in some web rooms are now mirrored in corresponding Discord channels and vice versa. This integration is to ensure that users across both platforms can stay in sync, notwithstanding where they choose to interact.

The rooms with message mirroring include prompt-craft, general-1, and a special superuser room for users who have created more than 1,000 images.

Holz expressed gratitude to the firm’s community for their patience during the development process. He urged users to explore the latest capabilities provided by the editor.

Already some users who responded to Midjourney’s post on the X platform expressed excitement with others describing it as “amazing”, “nice,” and others describing it as “incredibly convenient, can’t wait to try it.”
