  • Trump includes RFK Jr. and Tulsi in his group to help select key figures for a possible cabinet.
  • Kennedy’s role on Trump’s staff follows his recommendation and suspended stance as an independent.
  • Gabbard’s embrace reflects Donald’s effort to connect with citizens beyond the traditional Republican base.

Former President Donald Trump has chosen Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard to join his transition group for this year’s U.S. presidential election. Kennedy and Gabbard, who were both previously associated with the Democrats, will help select important individuals for a prospective Trump administration. This move shows Trump’s plan to reach beyond typical Republican supporters.

Kennedy and Gabbard’s New Roles

Robert Jr., an environmental lawyer and anti-vaccine activist, recently ended his independent run for the presidency. He began his campaign as a Democratic challenger to President  Biden but later decided to run as an independent. After suspending his candidature, Kennedy endorsed Trump and agreed to join the cabinet staff, saying he would help choose future government officials.

Tulsi, a long-time Democratic congresswoman, competed for the organisation’s presidential nomination in 2020 but did not win. She left the coalition in 2022 and has since become a favourite among supporters. Gabbard often appears in the main stream media and criticises the Biden regime. Her addition to Trump’s staff reflects his effort to appeal to voters outside the Republican base.

Trump’s announcement comes as he faces new federal penalties related to his efforts to challenge the 2020 voting outcome. The charges now focus on his actions as a candidate and private citizen. This follows a Supreme Court ruling in July granting him a “presumptive immunity” for his official acts during his presidency.

Trump responded to the new claims on his Truth Social platform, accusing U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith of trying to go around the Supreme Court’s decision. He argued that “the whole case should be thrown out and dismissed on Presidential Immunity grounds.”

Uncertain Impact of New Team Members

Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump has led to questions about his goals. A superPAC supporting Kennedy stated that he hopes for a role in a potential Trump administration. Political experts are unsure how Kennedy’s support will affect Trump’s campaign.

As Trump adds to his team, including Kennedy and Gabbard shows his effort to reach a broader group of voters. Both figures come from outside the Republican circle and might attract independent voters. With the election nearing, how these new additions will influence Trump’s bid for a second term remains to be seen.
